Creation

For our senior capstone, we were asked to create something we’re passionate about. I’m passionate about a lot of things, so narrowing it down was difficult. However, I managed to bring many of my interests together into one concept: a sapphic web magazine. Thus, Violet Cherry was born—a website where I could explore lesbian history, lesbian culture, web design, editorial design, and craft an aesthetic I’m proud of.

I invested time and effort into researching and writing each article. I reached out to friends for help with media recommendations because I wanted diverse perspectives, and my professors were incredibly supportive throughout the process. I can confidently say that I learned a lot during this project: about queer history and culture, about designing and building a website, about the creative possibilities of AI (special shout-out to ChatGPT for being my editor), and about my potential as a designer.

I really enjoyed working on this project, and I believe it represents who I am.
